CHECK OUT 10TH GTEFShanghai epitomizes the melding of dazzling innovation and modernization with history, tradition, and cultural heritage. Home to copious architectural styles, world-class cuisines, and contemporary art and creativity, Shanghai was designated as a UNESCO Creative City of Design in 2010. The city has put in place important initiatives to promote design as an important driver of industry development and social sustainability. Located in the Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone, Shanghai is also a center of global finance, and hosts large scale exhibitions such as the China International Import Expo, demonstrating the city’s commitment to strengthen cooperation and promote common prosperity of the world economy and under the “Belt and Road” Initiative. Under the framework of the Shanghai-Macao Cooperation Mechanism, GTEF seeks to promote collaboration between the two cities on tourism. Shanghai is a convincing example that showcases how tourism industry can translate innovation in technology into innovation in business models, business direction, and products – all of which would all go a long way towards sustaining Shanghai’s niche in the tourism sector.

GTEF is featuring one of the four leading economies of Europe – Italy – as its Partner Country. Birthplace of the Renaissance and epicenter of the Roman Empire, Italy is home to some of the world’s greatest art, architecture, and gastronomy. It is also home to some of the most well-known houses of style and fashion and tied only with China to the largest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Its cities represent UNESCO Creative Cities of Design, Literature, Film, Gastronomy, and Music. Italy welcomed 94 million tourists in 2019 and is the world’s fifth most visited country. Tourism represents a significant part of Italy’s national economy. China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism has made GTEF part of the China-Italy Cultural Cooperation Mechanism and enhanced high-level accessibility of their cultural and tourism sector. It is one of China’s primary goals to strengthen cultural exchange ties with the rest of the world. GTEF seeks to facilitate the discussion between China and Italy on promoting high-quality development of their tourism economy.
